Alexander Mair

     Alexander Mair was born on 23 August 1881 at Wick, Caithness, Scotland.^1,2 He was the son of William Mair and Jane Mair. His family was known by the tee-name of "Saucy". Alexander Mair was a fisherman. He married Jessie Slater at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 1 May 1903. He was a member of the crew of the Zulu fishing boat 'Evangeline' (BF 1952) and appears in crew photographs. However, he was not in the crew for the fateful Orkney fishing of January 1905 because of an argument with his stepfather, 'Evangeline' skipper David Wood “King”, over his playing of the melodeon. His place was taken by a young lad from Cullen, George Findlay.² Alexander Mair died on 22 August 1941 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 59.^1,2
