Alexander Gardiner was born on 19 October 1840.1 He was the son of Alexander Gardiner and Margaret Pirie. Alexander Gardiner was baptized on 1 November 1840 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was a fisherman and merchant seaman. He married Helen Mair, daughter of James Mair and Catherine Wood, on 26 February 1865 at Seafield Church, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.
