William Sclater was born on 31 March 1858 at Parish of Seafield, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of George Sclater and Jane Donaldson. His family was known by the tee-name of "Hasser". William Sclater was also known as William Slater. He was a fisherman. He married Margaret Ann Topp at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 4 October 1878.2 He was the informant for, and present at, Helen Jane Slater's death at 67 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 10 March 1879.3 William died on 18 December 1894 at Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 36.2
