Mary Vass was born on 19 January 1863 at Hilltown, Fearn, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.1,2 She was the daughter of Hugh Vass and Catherine McKay. She married William Mair at Church Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, on 18 October 1889.2 As of 18 October 1889, her married name was Mary Mair. She was the informant for William Mair's birth at Church Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, on 9 May 1894.3 Mary died on 17 August 1943 at 74 Church Street, Portsoy, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 80.2
