John Wood was born on 6 December 1813.1 He was the son of Alexander Wood and Jean Forbes. John Wood was baptized on 8 December 1813 at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland.1 His family was known by the tee-name of "Deacon". He was a fisherman. He married Ann Falconer at Parish of Cullen, Banffshire, Scotland, on 16 November 1841.2,3 John Wood died on 23 November 1857 at sea, off Scar Nose, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 43. He perished with the Portknockie fishing boat 'Vigilant' off Scar Nose, Portknockie during a storm. The entire crew were lost. They were George Pirie "Dodle" (skipper), John Wood "Deacon", James Mair "Bids", John Mair "Bids", James Mair "Pundlar", John Mair, John Innes, William Mair "Howdie".4,3
