William Pirie (1880-1943)
     William Pirie was born on 6 January 1880 at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Pirie and Elizabeth Ritchie. His family was known by the tee-name of "Buxer". William Pirie's father, John Pirie, was identified with the tee-name "Buxer" in the 1881 Scottish Census.
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1881 census at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Pirie “Buxer”, head; Elizabeth Pirie “Buxer”, wife; Catherine Pirie “Buxer”, daughter; William Pirie, son.2
His family was known by the tee-name of "King". His father, John Pirie, was then identified with the tee-name "King" in the 1891 Census. "Buxer" was the tee-name of William's grandfather's family and "King" was the tee-name of his grandmother's family. In the 1926 Directory of Portknockie, William was identified with the tee-name "King". William was usually called "Beel."
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1891 census at 218 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Pirie “King”, (blank); Elizabeth Pirie, wife; Katrine Pirie, daughter; William Pirie, son; Alexander Pirie, son; Elizabeth Pirie, daughter.3

He was listed as head of household's son in the 1901 census at 219½ Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Pirie, head; Mary Pirie, wife; Catherine Pirie, daughter; William Pirie, son; Alexander Pirie, son; Elizabeth Pirie, daughter.4
From 1903, John Pirie, William Pirie and Alexander Pirie owned the steam drifter 'Trident' BF 1049.5 He married Joan Duthie Buchan at Bon Accord Hotel, Market street, Aberdeen, Scotland, on 17 December 1903.6 He was the informant for Mary Stella Pirie's birth at 444 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 25 July 1908.7,8 He was the informant for, and present at, John Pirie's death at 428 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 6 December 1908.9 He was a witness at Alexander Pirie "King" and Margaret Helen Cheyne's wedding at 3 King Street, Aberdeen, Scotland, on 13 September 1923.10 He was a witness at James Pirie and Catharine Mair's wedding at 2 Commerce Street, Elgin, Moray, Scotland, on 11 March 1926.11,12,13 The Buckie and District Directory for 1926 shows that William Pirie lived at 10 Seafield Street, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.14 The Buckie and District Directory for 1926 shows that William Pirie and brother Alexander Pirie owned the steam drifter BF 1049 Trident.15
He died on 30 June 1943 at Sea, Off the East Coast, Scotland, at age 63.16 His body was interred on 3 July 1943 at Portknockie, Moray, Scotland, at Lair No. 1539, Hillhead cemetery.17

    Ian Alexander Pirie recalled that Trident was sold for scrap to Cameron's of Peterhead for £50.
