     Catharine Pirie was born on 24 January 1878 at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 She was the daughter of John Pirie and Elizabeth Ritchie. Her family was known by the tee-name of "Buxer". Catharine Pirie's father, John Pirie, was identified with the tee-name "Buxer" in the 1881 Scottish Census.
She was listed as head of household's daughter in the 1881 census at 219 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Pirie “Buxer”, head; Elizabeth Pirie “Buxer”, wife; Catherine Pirie “Buxer”, daughter; William Pirie, son.2
Her family was known by the tee-name of "King". Her father, John Pirie, was then identified with the tee-name "King" in the 1891 Census. "Buxer" was the tee-name of Catharine's grandfather's family and "King" was the tee-name of her grandmother's family.

She married William Mair at Seafield Church, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 27 December 1901.5,6 As of 27 December 1901, her married name was Catharine Mair. She was the informant for, and present at, Mary Pirie's death at 28 Seafield Street, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 4 June 1941.7 Catharine died on 16 February 1953 at 14 Harbour Place, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, at age 75.6 She was buried after 16 February 1953 at Hillhead Cemetery, Portknockie, Moray, Scotland. Catharine was usually called "Kate". She was recalled as having red hair.
