John Mair "Mull" or "Bobbin" (1885-1962)
     John Mair was born on 6 June 1885 at 237 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland.1 He was the son of John Mair and Margaret Mair. His family was known by the tee-name of "Mull" or "Bobbin". According to Edgar Donaldson Mair, the Tee-name was actually "Mull", but often "Bobbin" was used instead.2
He was listed as head of household's son in the 1891 census at 237 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Mair “Bobin”, head; Maggie Mair “Bobin”, wife; Mary Ann Mair “Bobin”, daughter; Maggie Mair, daughter; John Mair “Bobin”, son; James Mair “Bobin”, son; George Mair, son.3

He was listed as head of household's son in the 1901 census at 237 Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. Those recorded in the household were: John Mair, head; Margaret Mair, wife; Mary Ann Mair, daughter; Margaret Mair, daughter; John Mair, son; James Mair, son; George Mair, son; Fanny Mair, daughter.4
John Mair was a fisherman. He married Margaret Donaldson at The Grand Hotel, South Street, Elgin, Moray, Scotland, on 10 September 1912.5 He was the informant for Margaret Pirie's death at 28 Seafield Street, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 19 February 1922.6 The Buckie and District Directory for 1925 shows that John Mair lived at 6 Station Road, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland. The house was called 'Fleur-de-Lys.7' He was the informant for, and present at, John Mair's death at 3 Cliff Terrace, Portknockie, Banffshire, Scotland, on 16 December 1929.8 John died on 14 April 1962 at age 76.9,10 His body was interred after 14 April 1962 at Portknockie, Moray, Scotland, at Hillhead Cemetery.10
