Elspet was born at King Edward, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, circa 1827. She was the daughter of Thomas Spence and Mary Bruce. Her common name was Elsie. She married Alexander Cheyne at Bodiechell, Fyvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on 12 March 1857. As of 12 March 1857, her married name was Elspet Cheyne. Elspet died on 3 January 1892.1 Her body was interred after 3 January 1892 at Millbrex, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at Millbrex Kirkyard.2,1

And their eldest son JAMES SPENCE CHEYNE who died, there also, 22nd June 1876, aged 19 years. Also ELSIE SPENCE, wife of ALEXANDER CHEYNE, died January 3rd 1892, aged 64 years. Also their second daughter MARY BRUCE CHEYNE, who died April 27th 1895, aged 33 years. Also ALEXANDER who died February 17th 1912 aged 51 years. ALEXANDER CHEYNE SENR died February 13th 1915, aged 88 years. Happy are the souls above, from sin and sorrow ….are now at rest and all…."
