One of the few breaks from riding rollercoasters on our Florida holiday was to visit the Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral. This is the huge 525 foot high Vehicle Assembly Building that was built for assembling Apollo/Saturn V rockets, and is now used for Space Shuttle assembly.
Whilst at the Cape, we also saw (at a distance) the Space Shuttle Atlantis on launch pad 39A preparing for mission STS-122 that would carry the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Columbus laboratory to the International Space Station (ISS).
