Rachel Gregory  FTCL  LTCL

I was a winner of over one hundred classes for recorder, oboe, piano and singing in competitive music festivals in the south and west of England, and a finalist in the Bournemouth Young Musician Competition, playing the recorder.

I studied recorder, viol and harpsichord with Dr Carl Dolmetsch CBE, subsequently obtaining the Fellowship Diploma of Trinity College of Music, London.

Recorder Teaching
I teach recorder to children and adults, ranging from beginner to diploma level, at a number of establishments and also privately at home. The majority of these pupils take Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music graded examinations; most achieving distinction or merit. I currently teach at:

  • Aldro School, Shackleford
  • Highfield and Brookham Schools, Liphook
  • Liphook Junior School

Music Adjudication
I am an adjudicator member of the British and International Federation of Festivals for Music, Dance and Speech, and I adjudicate at festivals around Great Britain. Most often I am invited as the recorder specialist, but also adjudicated woodwind, brass and chamber music.

Conducting
I am on the visiting conductors panel of the Society of Recorder Players (SRP) and have conducted groups of recorder players at SRP meetings throughout the country. I have also served on the National Committee.

Course Tuition
I regularly participate as a course tutor at summer schools and weekend courses, including the Dolmetsch Summer School, the Northern Recorder Course, Le Feuvre Recorder Workshops and summer schools in Italy and the Czech Republic.

Performing
In modern times there has been a resurgence in interest in early music of the 16th and 17th centuries and also in music played on authentic instruments. As a performer, my repertoire ranges from 16th to 20th century music, including jazz. Most of these performances are on recorder.

I have broadcast on radio and television, and have performed, both as a soloist and with the Dolmetsch Concertante and The Classical Music Company, throughout the country and Europe. Audio and video recordings of some of these early music consorts have also been released.
