Welcome to the Plot To Plate Cook Book

Here you'll find the complete collection of recipes that have appeared on the Plot To Plate web site and others that may not make it to the site but are too good not to include here.

This is a collection of my favourite recipes, many of them tested on friends and family and usually consumed fairly speedily without too many complaints. An empty plate at the end of a meal spells success as far as I'm concerned. I hope you enjoy them too.

In the spirit of plot to plate, I've made sure that at least one ingredient is home grown, even if it is just a humble herb. The exception to that rule is the pudding section. We grow some fruit on the plot but not many other pudding ingredients (my chocolate tree failed miserably) and as there can be no truly meaningful life without puddings, the rule is waived!

All of the ingredients grown either on the allotment or in the garden at home are displayed in green. Of course, you can buy everything here at the supermarket and cook any of these dishes at any time of the year. Do it! The recipes still taste good. I would say however that eating seasonally using home grown or local produce wins hands down every time.

Cooking should be fun. Too many people these days seem to think that spending time in the kitchen is wasted time. If you've found this site then you're probably interested in good food already but if you've just found your way here by chance then please stay a while. Give one or two of the recipes a go and I can almost guarantee that you'll get hooked. There's little more satisfying than spending a lazy Sunday afternoon making jams or chutneys, or seeing the look on your friends faces when you serve them something delicious for dinner.

Good food doesn't always take a long time to prepare and some of the best dishes are often the simplest. One of the my most memorable lunch time experiences was in a restaurant in Doncaster a couple of years ago. I just had a simple cheese omelette with a green salad and a roll & butter. It was good because they used fresh eggs, great cheese and locally made fresh bread. Oh yes, and the butter arrived as a simple, spreadable slice from a block and not rock hard in one those horrible little pre-packaged rectangles!   Nothing difficult, just good ingredients handled with care. I just wonder why more places can't do the same instead of putting complex, and often unremarkable dishes on the menu in order to follow the latest culinary trend. There's no reason why we all can't eat that way every day. I'll be adding some twenty minute mid-week specials to the site shortly for when you get home after a long day at work. It's a great way to unwind I promise. Take a look at the dish of the day. It really does only take twenty to thirty minutes to make from scratch and if I got a dish as good as this in any restaurant anywhere, I'd be very happy!

Of course, posh nosh is fantastic fun to prepare when you want to indulge yourself (well why not - life's to short to be good all the time) or show off to your friends. There's no reason why you shouldn't get creative when you feel the urge. Whatever you choose to do, just enjoy it.

If you have a recipe you think the rest of us might enjoy, contact me and I'll give it a try. If it's good I'll include it in the cookbook.

Either browse through the pages or go to the Menu to find all the recipes on the site listed by their category.
