Hannibal's story !

Hannibal originally lived at my last college where I studied animal care. He started off living with another male in one of the main tanks, I assume this was his brother.

Now this hamster (his brother) was one of the largest male Chinese hamsters I've seen and for some reason or another he took a disliking to Hannibal. One day while checking the cages Hannibal was found with nasty wounds and had to be separated from his brother.

He had been bitten on his ear, around his eye and the base of the tail. The wounds were so bad that the staff at my college thought it might be kinder to put him to sleep. However they decided to give him a second chance and put him in a lab cage on top of one of the other main cages, this was when I noticed him and fell in love with him and his little battle scarred features.

And so after persuading my parents and asking my college I was able to take him home.

Hannibal was named Hannibal after the movie, I first called him it at college as a joke, but everyone seemed to like it. Although I was reluctant to call such a sweetie something so harsh at first,it eventually stuck after he had bitten me a few times ! He did also get called Hammy B, Hambalina and little boy.

My friend Dawn kindly looked after Hannibal while I went to study my degree and sadly he passed away at the beginning of 2005, he was a good age of around 3 and passed away peacefully in his sleep.
