Holiday to Scotland 2005
In July 2005 Mum, Dad, Tula (my dog) and I went on holiday to Scotland. Because it is quite a long way for us to travel we made two camping stops one in the lake district and one in Stirling on the way up and on the way back when we had had enough of camping we made only one stop near Hadrian's wall.
The main part of our holiday was spent in Bothy cottage on the Lochindorb lodge estate in Moray near Inverness. The estate is situated on the edge of Lochindorb loch and is fairly isolated. In total we spent a week there and filled our time walking around the loch, visiting whisky distilleries and visiting locals villages/towns.
The majority of the photos below (except the one of Tula) were taken by my Dad as I didn't take my camera with me this time for some unknown reason!
Above is Bothy Cottage where we staid.
A photo of the harbour on the loch as you can see it was a beautiful place !
The first photo is of Lochindorb castle in the middle of the loch and the second is of some of the lichen which covered the trees in the surrounding woods. I took Tula for several walks in these woods and they just had a wonderful ancient and silent stillness to them, something you cant really capture on camera.
Scottish heather and our log fire! Even though it was July we still had log fires at night because it was still fairly cold, This meant Dad standing outside chopping wood while getting eaten by the midges! It was a real novelty to me and I made my dad take a photo of one!
Tula (beady-eye hound) after running through the wet woods! She absolutely loved chasing the abundant rabbits outside the cottage, unfortunately we were soon told there were snares in the wood and had to keep her on the lead.
I know I'm pushing this page with the number of photos, but I just had to include this last photo of Loch Garten. Here we went to visit the Osprey centre and being a bit of a twitcher I was super pleased to see Osprey on the nest site here. However the reason I included this photo was because all though it doesn't do it justice at all this glassy loch was well up in my list of the most beautiful places I've ever visited.
Scotland is truly a big rugged and beautiful place and is well worth a visit.
