Walking Snowdon 2005 and 2006
In August 2005 I walked up mount Snowdon in North Wales which is the highest peak in Wales and England at 1,085m / 3,560 ft with my Dad. We staid in the Snowdon Ranger youth hostel. There are six paths up Snowdon and we took one of the easier routes up the Snowdon Ranger track and came down the Rhyd Ddu track. Lets just say I wasn't really prepared this time and only made it after many stops and was wobbly kneed when I got to the top lol. It was however an amazing experience with breath taking scenery.
In 2006 after much debating with my dad as to what I was capable of, we returned to Snowdon. We again walked up the Snowdon Ranger track, but this time we carried all our belongings (for one night) with us and went down the Miners track to stay at the Pen-y-pass youth hostel. The next day my Dad (being much fitter then I am) went back up via the Pyg track and met me at the Snowdon Ranger hostel after taking the bus round!
I feel I was much fitter on my second attempt up Snowdon however the weather was approaching 30oC and that really really took it out of me! If you've seen the last Lord of the Rings film (Return of the King) I felt much like Sam and Frodo trudging up mount doom on the way up (I've never sweated so much in my life!) but the Miners track on the way down was SO worth the trouble! Along with Loch Garten (see Scotland Holiday photos) this was one of the most beautiful places I've been. Words can't really describe how privileged I felt to be there.
I have separated the photos into the different tracks we took and then some general photos for ease of loading, enjoy ....
