Polymetis Thoughtware Limited is a very small company offering a range of services that can be summed up very simply as brainpower. It offers a wide range of knowledge and expertise gained by long study, experience of nearly 25 years working in several countries on the part of its director, and wide reading plus keeping in touch with events through all the modern means of communication; that knowledge and expertise covers what some find a bewildering array of subjects, and yet is applied highly intelligently to whatever activity is undertaken.
The company's articles are drawn very widely, but its capacity to meet requirements are limited by its extremely small size, and by the fact that its owner remains content to work for clients one at a time, without any attempt at expansion. Principally, work tends to be in information systems consultancy.
Briefly, areas of past and present activity include the following from the career of Ian P. Hudson:
Work (1993 to 1998) for Xyratex (in Havant, Hampshire England) included development of products and standardized test suites for testing device compliance to data storage protocol standards including both upper level protocols (the SCSI command set) and the transport layer of the emerging serial protocols including Serial Storage architecture (SSA) and Fibre Channel, now being used to link disk drives to the computers that use them.
After that came a spell of system test work on a large confectionery stock control system for Mars and then in the winter 1998-99 some international training consultancy for IBM before rejoining IBM UK Labs in the lovely surrounding of Hursley Park working for Storage Systems Division working on the extremely thorough testing of disk storage products like the Advanced Serial RAID/X Adapter.
