Reports 2007/8 Season Invicta Primary League - Under 10's Division 1 Park
Regis U-10s 1
Park Regis put in a disappointing performance following a very promising display the previous week, and seemed to lack their usual team spirit which is so often a feature of their play. Regis failed to apply any pressure in midfield and allowed Eagles to run at them and put them under pressure for long spells of the first half, and only resolute defending by Will Phipps and especially Jack Maskell resisted the onslaught, aided by some fine goalkeeping by Jacob Lake. However, the pressure eventually told but after creating a number of good chances Eagles went ahead through the softest of goals when a long range shot squirted under the keepers foot to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at half time.
After a stern half time team talk Regis at last showed some sense of purpose and managed to start playing some football of their own, Ryan Rogers and Zach Jones linking well when going forward. In the end their equalizer was an individual effort when Ryan Rogers dispossessed an Eagles defender to race in on goal and finish coolly. At the other end Regis managed to resist a late onslaught by the visitors, ably assisted by Thomas Wisdom making his league debut for the club, to hang on for a well-earned point.

Any hopes of Regis improvement continuing into the second match were swiftly dispelled as Eagles again took charge of affairs and Regis seemed content to allow them to do pretty much whatever they wanted, and it was no surprise when the visitors took and early lead and then doubled it with two clinical goals which gave keeper Jacob Lake no chance.
Again strong words were required at half time and they seemed to have been heeded when Regis enjoyed an early spell of pressure. They managed to force a corner and Callum Smiths fine delivery was met superbly by Ryan Rogers who forced the ball over from close range. However, Regis then reverted to the way they had been playing in the first half and allowed Eagles to dominate all areas of play and two further goals were just rewards for the visitors, and could have been more were it not for a couple fo great saves by Jacob Lake and brave defending by Jack Maskell. The parents player of the match award went to Ryan Rogers while Jack Maskell won the managers award. Park

Following promotion Regis had a harsh introduction to life in the Invicta first division with a game against a very strong and well-drilled Coxheath team. Regis seemed to pay the visitors too much respect but were unlucky to fall behind to an early goal when a superb save by keeper Jacob Lake, making his league debut for Regis, ricocheted to the feet of a Coxheath attacker for the simplest of tap ins. However, the second goal, just before half time, owed nothing to luck with a superb run and cross from the left wing being met with a powerful header.
In the second half Regis finally began to settle down and play some football of their own, and outplayed the visitors for long periods of the half. Striker Ryan Rogers was twice found with defence splitting passes, firstly from Jimi Harris and then Will Phipps, but was unable to convert. Regis also forced a series of corners but hesitation and diffidence enabled Coxheath to deal with them comfortably and they ran out worthy winners.

Regis again fell behind to an early goal when the defence was left exposed and keeper Jacob Lake had no chance with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Regis continued to battle but slick passing from Coxheath saw them create further chances and only good goalkeeping, brave defending and poor finishing prevented them from extending their lead. When in possession Regis continued to try to pass the ball, but lacked inciveness in the final third and all too often failed to get a shot on target.
In
the second half Regis small squad began to tire and three goals
in swift succession for the visitors killed off any hope of a fightback.
To their credit Regis still came forward and created chances but were
unable to find a way through Coxheaths well organized defence.
The managers man of the match award went to Jimi Harris while
the parents award went to Will Phipps. |
