2007/2008 Season Reports Maidstone
Minor League Park
Regis JFC - 3 Regis continued their undefeated league run in a match that kept both sets of supporters on the edge of their seats. Regis, early on, were slow to get to the pace of the game, with the opposition pressing hard for an early advantage, but the game soon evened out with chances coming at both ends. It wasnt until late in the first half that RUSSELL SIME squeezed the ball past the MPR keeper, to give Regis the lead at half time. Regis were stunned by two quick MPR goals at the start of the second half, leaving them in the familiar position of playing catch up, and it took a spectacular overhead kick from a corner by BRADLEY RENAUD to even the game. With both teams pressing for a winner, it was RENAUD who latched on to a ROSS JEFFREY pass to edge Regis back into the lead. Player of the Match was awarded to left back TOM MILLER. Park
Regis JFC - 3
An exciting cup game, that went all the way to penalties, saw Regis just nudged out by their local opponents. Regis started brightly, having the best of the early play, but it was Lions who scored after 20 minutes, a lead that they held until half time. Within 20 seconds of the restart, scores were level when Regis Player of the Match, JAMIE TROKE, latched onto a RUSSELL SIME through ball. Regis took the lead when the Lions defence stood still, expecting the referees whistle, and RUSSELL SIME took advantage of the situation to score. Lions equalised late on to force the game into extra time. Regis were ahead again early in the second period of extra time when BRADLEY RENAUD fired home, only for the game to be evened up once more by Lions. The penalty
shoot out was as close as the game, with Regis just loosing out. Barming
Blues - 2 Regis only had 10 fit players for their first away match of the season, and when Barming scored within the first five minutes, it looked like the re-shaped side were going to struggle. As the Regis players got used to their unaccustomed positions, their confidence began to grow, and after fifteen minutes, Regis found themselves level through a JAMIE TROKE goal. With minutes of the first half remaining, ROSS JEFFREY took the ball on a superb run from his own half, to the oppositions goal line, and sent in a cross that TROKE turned in. The fate of the game was decided within the first three minutes of the second half, when TOM PACKER scored his first and Regis third, closely followed by another terrific run and cross, this time from RUSSELL SIME which PACKER netted. Barming did pull a goal back, but Regis points were safe. Everyone put in a performance that could have won them Player of the Match, but ZAC GREGORY edged it with his success at right back. Park
Regis JFC - 2 Regis were pushed all the way, but ultimately claimed all 3 points in an exciting encounter, which tested both teams fitness. Regis had the best of the early exchanges, but despite hitting the bar three times it was Longfield who took the lead on 15 minutes. Regis rallied and they were soon on level terms when JAMIE TROKE netted, a score that remained until half time. With four changes in the second half, Regis battled on, but it wasnt until 5 minutes to go that Regis nudged ahead, when BRAD RENAUD, on his league debut, fired towards goal and TOM PACKER wrong footed the keeper with his touch. The drama didnt end there with Longfield forcing three late corners, but a goal line clearance from TOM MILLER secured the points for Regis. Another player making their league debut, JACK HAGUE was presented with Player of the Match for a superb defensive performance. |
