The air temperature hovered just above 0°C overnight (and in fact has not been below 0°C since last Tuesday!).

Temperature reached over 6°C early afternoon. Driving north on my homeward journey from Aberdeen observed uniformly black and towering Cumulonimbus extending over the visible North Sea. Somebody somewhere going to be on the receiving end! I'm guessing North of England, mostly?. One brief hail shower early evening here so far.

Just been a walk to the harbour and observed distant sheet lightning to south and east over the North Sea. Thunder hardly audible and very delayed. Wet pavements, dripping roan pipes and fresh "less than snow-like" feel to the air at present - just under 4 degC.

I have only attempted snowfall observations from January onwards as follows:
Falling snow: Jan 4 days; Feb 7 days.
Lying snow (approx. 50%): Jan 2 days; Feb 4 days.
My recollection is that December would have had similar numbers to January. Hope to have a more complete summary next year.
A relatively dry and mild winter at this north easterly coastal location.

A relatively mild, dry and frost-free month although cooler in the latter half of the period. Remarkably, an air frost was recorded only on one day! The easterly and northerly winds from mid-month onwards did not bring the expected wintry conditions to any marked degree at this coastal location. The air temperature generally remained well above 0°C with many days having extended periods of bright sunshine.
