drawing of diatom eupodiscus

The diatom Eupodiscus argus

Diatoms are microscopic algae with shells made out of silica and come in a wide variety of shapes. Eupodiscus argus is a circular form with an apparently random patterning of small amorphous dots scattered across its face. Drawn for an article by Brian Darnton on european estuarine diatom sites in the July 1994 issue of the Balsam Post. Simple pen and ink line drawing printed on light blue paper.
