Ferret hair

Ferret Hair

Animal hairs can be strikingly different between species. The picture here shows ferret hairs at various stages and various types. At one end you have the bulbous root of a hair leading to a slender smooh hair stem. This hair then expands until as shown in another section where it looks like a transparent plaited rope with a darker core passing through which then becomes thinner again in another section of hair. Behind this is another type of thicker hair with a wide core having a fish-scale pattern. This type of hair then terminates in a long slender point. Balsam Post cover, issue N. 40, July 1998. Composite drawing from material provided by T Shaw and printed on light blue paper.
