ZEBU at Preston marina

This is a picture of the west end of Preston marina, showing the tall ship Zebu. The last brigantine registered in Britain has changed registry from Southampton to Preston, where she is now based. As Flagship of Operation Raleigh Zebu circumnavigated between 1984-1988,sailing 69,000 miles and visiting 41 countries. Built in 1938 as a Baltic Trader with fore and aft rig, Zebu became square-rigged brigantine in 1983, this being more efficient for trade wind operations. She was being refitted at Preston for the 1998 Tall Ships' Race to Lisbon. Many Preston companies have supported this venture.
