Flowering months: June to October.

Habitat: Found on meadows, along hedgerows and woods and grows generally on poorer soils.

Special features: This is perforate
St. John's wort, which gets its name from the perforations in the leaves. You can see them when you hold them up to the light. Because of these holes, people used to believe the plant had healing properties. During the Crusades, the knights of St. John used the leaves to heal their wounds.

It is used now to treat mild depression and anxiety and for stress. In Germany it is used frequently.
