I do admire your taste. I always did.

That's why I'm glad we've found some common ground;

These pavement shapes approaching, then retreating

Beneath heads bowed in covert ecstasy.

Your glance at first, of mute and rapt alarm

My giving turned to desperate questioning;

But I'd bared myself to you in written words-

Was it really not enough? I could add nothing.

When I walked away from you that final time

The street split asunder; before my sightless eyes;

I thought persuing that line -to its extreme

Would take me beyond you. Towards me.

Well, I'm walking still- we'll pass each other by

Again, I know; and our thoughts will bleed together

I In broken comedy. If you read this now,

Perhaps you'll even laugh. I'll hold my line.
