The Village School

Founded in 1661 by William Aylworth, Pytchley Endowned Church Of England Primary School is located on High Street and Butcher's Lane. The two class rooms in the old part of the school are still used for the junior children and can be seen at the top left of the picture. The new part added 20 years ago houses 2 classrooms, the hall and administration facilities. This is where the infants are taught. In 1868 the school was opened to all children living in Pytchley but now it only offers primary education. At the begining of the 1990's the school came very close to closure as the number of pupils fell to a grand total of 23 (one junior class and one infants). In July 2002 there were 88 children at the school, many of whom came from Kettering and the surrounding villages.
