Quarndon Cognition

Quarndon

Quarndon is a small village just north of Derby. It was famous in the seventeenth century for the longevity of its inhabitants - attributed to its health giving spa water - and deemed worthy of a visit by Daniel Defoe.

It is much more likely that its position 120m above the insects and smoke of the Derwent valley and a constant clean water supply were more significant reasons for the good health of the residents.

Cognition

... as in cognitive systems.

Cognitive systems are natural or artificial information processing systems, including those responsible for perception, learning, reasoning, decision-making, communication and action. Many of the new research opportunities in this area, highlighted in the Government's Office of Science and Innovation Foresight review, lie at the interface between life sciences, social sciences, engineering and physical sciences.
