Summer News 2006 The local show season is now upon us and we are keen to get horses out to step up their education. Korakor has shown good potential for a show jumping at home, being an ex-chaser the height of the obstacles is not a problem but wildly coloured fillers are naturally a little scary. But he is a very honest person and tries very hard not to let anyone down. His first trip in the trailer to a show at Axewater Equestrian Centre at the start of June was intended to be just for the ride, but to our amazement he was so relaxed and unaffected by the goings on that we entered him into a small jumping class. He went clear in the first round and just clipped one in the jump off. Sarah did a wonderful job of helping him every step of the way, encouraging him over every obstacle giving him lots of praise.
Wild Sky attended his first Show Jumping at Pontispool and to our surprise was placed 3rd with Sarah. And then Natalie entered another and was placed 4th. so well done to both girls who had not Show Jumped for a very long time. He also entered the ex-racehorse class with jumps and was placed 5th. Indian Flyer and Balmacara took a trip to a very low key local show, and due to the heat did not compete, but just went to look around. The both travelled very well, although Indy being a young male and Connie being a little hormonal, lots of squealing and loving whickering patter was going on. We stayed for a couple of hours, Kate and Sarah riding them, giving them time to have a good look around the workings of a show .
Indian Flyer has left. His new owners Linda and Holly are full of enthusiasm over this very laid back 4 year old. They see huge potential in our young lad. We are hoping to see him very shortly at his first competition.
Other news Loop The Loup (Len) Emma and Len have returned to Somerset and a new job meaning that they now reside only 6 miles away from the Centre. We popped over to see him within a day of his arrival settling in with his new friends. Emma is a lovely lass and we will be supporting her in any way we can. Shortly Len and Emma will be spending a Weekend with us to do a bit of schooling.
Kefir has now been with Karen for a year, and she is delighted with him. We are still waiting for him to compete at dressage although he is a little accident prone which is putting competition on hold. Homer is now basically nanny to Jo's youngsters but now and again they go out for a quiet hack, time between each hack can vary from once a month to once every 3/4 months. Homer seams quite happy with this level of work that he has to do, so a very happy horse indeed. Shrek is also enjoying happy existence up in Scotland with our good friend Jo. Quietly hacking around the Cairngorms with the children’s pony. Monee was recently featured in the racing post "life after racing" the article pointing out that a seriously formidable sprinter can make a mothers hack. Bless him. Bishop is still the love of Fay's life and has done very well with being barefoot for the past 3 years, even hunting.
With all good news comes some sad. Lacy has died at the age of 11 of a brain tumour. Very sad indeed. She was such a smashing mare and we have very fond memories of her when she first arrived at the tender age of 3. ...................................................................... Balmacara goes double clear in her first attempt at show jumping at Axewater Equestrian Centre
....................................................................... We
were asked to attend a charity show in aid of The Brooke Hospital for
Animals in Tiverton.
Kora and Mojo enjoying the day Natalie, Kate and Sarah entered nearly all the classes for a bit of fun and the boys behaved impeccably in every one. Natalie and Mojo were second in the child handler. Kate and Mojo were second in the Veteran. Sarah and Kora were first in the Judges favourite.
Korakor has an admirer
korakor
wins first in the Judges Favourite, much to Sarah's delight
Two parades were held during the day where details of the horses past were announced to the visiting crowd. This show was unique in its organisation, it raised the profile of, not just our charity but others like The Dartmoor Hill Pony, Mare and Foal Sanctuary and of course raising much needed funds for the Brooke Hospital. This was the nicest show we have ever been to and hope they hold this event again next year even Bigger and Better, if they do we WILL be there to support it. Well done to Penny and Jane and thank you for coming all that way to help us with our show.
