Our Horse Show 2007

Every organiser of any outdoor event this year will more than likely agree that this summer has been a worrying time. If the weather was good most of the event fields were still waiting to be cut, and if they had been cut then it rained again and the ground was far too wet to hold the event. We were very lucky and held off, praying for the tide to turn. On the Monday before the show, we were putting in the posts for the rings in ground that could only be described as resembling a paddy field. Resisting the temptation to cancel the show, as so many others had done, the sun came out on the Saturday and it was blazing hot and only one gateway in the parking field had a small amount of soft soil.

Judges were Lindsay Opperman in ring 1 with Catherine Holmes as her steward, Lindsay reported that there were some very high class entrants in her ring and thoroughly enjoyed her day.
In ring 2 was Louise Hebditch and her steward was Louise Hill, again a good quality and quantity of entrants.

Lindsay and Louise Joined forces to judge the ex-racehorse class the winner this year was:-

1st Lauren Denman on Paddy my Man
2nd Victoria Sweeney on Wahiba Sands
3rd Katherine le Fluffy on BG
4th Helen Clark on Northern Maverick
5th Angelina Hughes on Royal Predico
6th Mel Clark on Allied Imperial

Our Show jumping judges and commentator seemed to have a entertaining day, Louise Bentley on commentary was a natural, encouraging everyone with "Good Luck" and a "Well Done" as they entered and left the arena. Carole Richards and Juliet Holley were Judges and Juliet doubled as course builder.

Later on in the day, fueled with a few glasses of wine, a few amusing comments were aimed at Neil who was chief executive of the arena party with Jo, Alex and Kate.

The Mini Show jumping was Judged by Chris Moore and Louisa. Both enjoyed judging these classes as Chris and Louisa are both naturals with the little ones.

Clear round manned throughout the day by different teams, Louisa and Abbi, Nick and Jill, Jackie and Colin, Natalie and Angela.

On BBQ, keeping every one well fueled were Paul, Steve and Peter. Teas and cakes managed by Anne, Hannah, Amber and Lyn.

Parking was beautifully managed by Max, Terry, David, Clive and Mark. Runners Heidi, Megan and Jordan being kept busy to-ing and fro-ing from secretary's tent to the rings with entries.

Secretary's Eileen and Nick, thinking they were on the easy job as it involved sitting down, found out that it was the most stressful especially early on in the day.

Big thank you to Lynne who helped sort out the judges food on her own, while we were otherwise engaged at other posts.

At the end of the day the younger members of the crew were taken for a ride in the Toolstation Hummer. Toolstation had kindly sponsored one of our rings and brought their vehicle to the show. Naturally all the young lads and lasses were keen to have a ride in it so the driver very kindly obliged. Then it was the turn of the judges and of course the bigger boys.

Results - Thankyou to all who took part.
