First UK Mail
The 29th May 2009 marks the 75th.Anniversary of
the first ever air mail at
the ground letter rate from Inverness to Kirkwall. On that day at
11.15 in Inverness Airport, the Royal Mail Director Scotland will
present a mail bag of commemorative envelopes with inserts as shown
below, to the pilot of a DH Dragon. The DH Dragon is sponsored by
Eastern Airways and is the same type of aircraft that flew the
original mail. The mail bag will be flown to Orkney and a similar
ceremony will take place at Kirkwall airport at around 12.30.
Please note that these envelopes are available for
purchase from the Trust at a cost of £5.50 including post and packaging. Make cheque payable to the Fresson
