The writing on the back of the photograph reads
"'Royal Scot' hauled by 46252 "City of Leicester" picking up water at Whitmore,
Aug 1956."
It's a good job we have the note to tell us what locomotive it
is, as the number is completely unreadable. What a filthy engine to put on the
"Royal Scot"!
Whitmore's down starting signals can be seen in the distance.
The West Coast Main Line followed a long right hand curve past Whitmore
signalbox, which didn't straighten out until the troughs.
