The wording on the back of the photograph reads: '"Merseyside Express" passing relaying trains, Madeley, June 1957.'
The locomotive is 46204 "Princess Louise". I guess that some of these Madeley photographs were taken on a Sunday when track work would be carried out. Also, one or two of the trains are on the slow line (45510 & 46166), which was unusual for a weekday. I remember the signalman at Madeley, Edgar Bedson, telling me that a couple of gentlemen had been taking photos in the area, including some from the signalbox.
Photograph from Peter Brown's collection.
