The wording on the back of the photograph reads: "Blackpool – Euston & Birmingham – North Wales trains passing relaying works on Down Slow line, June 1957".
The photographer has turned round from the previous photo of 46204 on "The Merseyside Express", and is looking towards the site of the closed Madeley station, which was just past the footbridge. One of the permanent way men is holding out a flag. The wagon on the down slow seems to be carrying track as the sleepers can be seen sticking out. Very faintly, over the top of the Birmingham train on the down fast, can be seen Madeley signalbox.
Photograph from Peter Brown's collection.
