Photo taken by relief signalman Peter Adams. This shows the up "Caledonian" (Glasgow - Euston) just about to pass Stableford signalbox. The 'Caley' is usually doing about 75-80 mph here, so you might think Peter's done well to 'catch' it. There might be a permanent way slack in force, though, as the ballast looks new, so may only be doing 15 mph. The levers off are the ones I should have put back instead of the down fast levers when I almost brought the down "Red Rose" to a stand. (See my written Railway Memories)
