Model : Landrover, RangeRover classic, 1986, Capstain Blue, 4 door, 3.5efi V8.
On the 6th Jan 2001, I purchased this
rangerover fairly cheap as it had been standing and had no tax or m.o.t.
The idea was to buy this rangerover for my wife Vanessa as a runabout as
she only uses a vehicle locally, so running costs were not an issue
(best excuse I could think of for buying one). Once purchased I carried
out the necessary minor work to pass an m.o.t. Next step was insurance,
which I found out that because the vehicle is older than 15 years it is
regarded as a classic, which can be insured a lot cheaper. Finally down
the post office for a years road tax, this is when I wished that the
vehicle was older and was tax free!
After two years on the tarmac I was desperate to take it off road, so I
joined the Essex Landrover club. I got carried away with the RTV events
and after coming home with bent side steps, scratches and broken parts
(Due to my driving not the course),
my wife insisted on a new car, leaving me the rangie. Deal done!

Now taking an old vehicle off road and
getting carried away, you soon end up with bent and broken parts. I had
a list of jobs that required fixing for the annual M.O.T. so i drove the
rangie into my garage to start. Upon closer inspection i found holes in
the floor pan and rear crossmember, a seized wheel bearing, no rubber left in the bushes and
brake callipers that weren't working correctly. That's when i decided to
remove the body from the chassis and restore everything, apart from the
engine which was all running o.k.

The idea of this project is to restore some
life into it so that it lasts and that i can spend more time driving it
than fixing it. I will be making modifications and
fabricating full protection for it. The vehicle is not being built as a
competition vehicle but as a capable off-roader that has to travel onto tarmac
and do a spot of greenlaning with the family.

Even my 5 year old daughter is helping out on
this project!
Use the links on the left to follow me
through the work which i am carrying out. I shall be updating the website as and when i
get to work on her, due to the usual time and money.

"Its a RangeRover thing, you wouldn't understand".
