Job Title: rarescale Intern
Responsible to: Carla Rees, Artistic Director
Main role: to experience day to day running of a contemporary music ensemble, assisting with promotion, fund raising and other administrative duties as required
Hours: Flexible, with a minimum commitment of around 4 hours per week, to commence November 2009 for a fixed term until July 2010.
Location: rarescale office in Croydon, performance venues and/or intern’s own home
Remuneration: Reasonable expenses will be paid upon submission of receipts
About rarescale
rarescale was formed in July 2003 to promote the alto flute and its repertoire. The group performs regularly in the UK and USA and has international links with several composers. UK performances have included the Premiere Series in London, recitals in Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester and Sheffield and appearances at the British Flute Society’s International Conventions, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Dartington International Summer School, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and at the UK Microfest Festival of Microtonal music. International performances include at the National Flute Association of America Convention, Sonic Circuits Festival in Washington DC, Spark Festival in Minneapolis, International Flute Festival in Provence, France and recitals in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Members of the group have also given workshops and masterclasses for the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain and First National Flute Choir Day, as well as at universities and music colleges in the UK and USA, including the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, University of Southern California, UCLA and the Royal Academy of Music.
In 2007 the group expanded further to incorporate rarescale Flute Academy, a training ensemble for university level flute players to enable them to learn about performance techniques on the alto and bass flute and to gain arts management experience.
rarescale records for its own label, with its first three discs released in autumn 2008.
Job specification
The Internship provides administrative support to rarescale’s Artistic Director, and duties may include:
· Promotional work, including web listings for concerts, mail shots, press releases, flyer distribution, research and working with social networking websites.
· Fundraising, including completing application forms and administering the Friends Scheme
· Arranging rehearsals and liaising with players
· Sourcing and researching programme notes for concerts
· Front of house support at concerts
· Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Artistic Director. continued
