Industry Sector Economic ReviewsIndustry Sector Economic Reviews present the latest official data relating to an industry sector, summarized in a format that is meaningful to the sector concerned. Reviews can be produced quarterly bi-annually or annually. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) produce many monthly, quarterly and annual reports and other updates on the UK economy and various aspects of industry. The data are based on official trade and production data gathered and collated by ONS, and are often presented with accompanying graphs and tables via their Web site. In addition, organizations such as the Confederation of British Industries (CBI), Trade federations and other bodies produce similar reports - using both original survey material and ONS data. While these reports meet the needs of many businesses, the subject areas that they cover tend to be either too broad (e.g. 'manufacturing') or too narrow (e.g. 'machine tools') to be relevant to (say) a Trade Association that represents the interests of manufacturers, distributors and others involved in a number of different product or service areas. In these cases, it is necessary to research a wide range of reports in order to find the data needed. When the reports are found, the task of reading them all through to find comment of specific interest is considerable - let alone presenting the information for others to digest.
