Robert Beasley is a marketing and management consultant and proprietor of NBS. Until his semi-retirement in May 2005, he was a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and was accredited via the government's 'Small Business Service' system. He has spent 21 years as an employee of major UK companies and 26 years as managing director or principal of his own businesses. This has enabled him to understand industry from the perspectives of both employee/manager and owner/employer. Robert trained as a naval architect with Vosper Thorneycroft, Southampton before re-training as a mechanical and production engineer and joining joined Baker Perkins (APV Baker) in 1964 – where he was responsible for project-managing major electro-mechanical biscuit plant installations in the UK and Europe. Forming an energy-related manufacturing company in 1975, he gained a valuable insight into the needs of small businesses - having played the all the roles of founder/entrepreneur, chief engineer, designer, and business, marketing and installations manager. The business was sold to Pilkington Bros in 1985. As product, then marketing manager for Stewarts and Lloyds Plastics (Victaulic plc), Robert built on his business and manufacturing experience to undertake the marketing management of the Company during its stock market floatation period. In 1990, Robert formed a consultancy business (NBS) providing Strategic Marketing, Business Planning and Manufacturing advice, specializing in advising on the appropriate use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in relation to business and marketing issues.
