I forgot to mention that photographs
from the Opening Bonspiel are available to view |

March 2008 |
...
and the fat lady has warbled her last note.
Results
and tables have been updated.
Congratulations
to
 |
Alan
Scott and his Balvenie rink of Allan Jackson, Ian Hewitt,
Suzanne Reynolds and Douglas Paterson for winning the
League |
 |
Tony
Moore and his Craigmillar rink comprising Liz Moore,
Gillian Donald, Crichton Mouat, Ian Taylor and Derek
MacGillivray for winning the Braid (so comprehensively) |
Commiserations
to Arnie Yule and his Aberlour rink and also to my Corstorphine
rink.
In
addition, the Province
League team have been relegated to Division 3 after somehow
only managing to draw with Duddingston in the last game of the
season (we needed to win to stay up). 'We wuz robbed' was never
more appropriate. I have never played in such a one-sided game
in my life yet not managed to win the game! The curling gods
were not on our side that night. |

Barring
a miracle of biblical proportions, Alan Scott's Balvenie rink
are league champions. After a very close game against Ian
Hastie's Fettercairn rink, Balvenie emerged triumphant by 8-6.
The results and tables
have been updated.
 |
We
have the closing Bonspiel on Monday evening @ 5:30pm. I still
have 1 space left in the 8th rink. If you're interested please
contact me. |
 |
The
last games of the season take place this week, so it's
time to switch to the summer sports ... now where did I
put those golf clubs? |
 |
I'm
looking to re-vamp the web-site over the summer, so if you
have any suggestions on the how the site could be
improved, please let me know. |

March 2008 |
The
results and tables
have been updated as at the end of February.
 |
Congratulations
to Arnie's Aberlour rink on winning the Knockout
cup. They may have finished bottom of the league but have
obviously been saving their best form for the cup
competition. Is this to ensure they qualify to play in
Europe next season? |
 |
The
race to win the League is
entering the closing stretch. With only 1 game to go, Alan
Scott's Balvenie rink and Iain Phillips' Glenfiddich team
are tied at the top of the table on 18 pts. However,
Balvenie's superior points difference means that a win in
their final game (Thu 6th March) against Ian Hastie's
Fettercairn rink, will see them win the title. If I may
momentarily digress from my editorial neutrality ... come
on Fettercairn ! |
 |
Congratulations
also to the Province
League team on a fine 11-2 win against SIAE. This lifts us off the
bottom of the table and sets up a relegation decider with
Duddingston on Mon 10th March ... the loser is relegated
to Division 3. |
 |
The
AGM was held on Wed 20th February. Ian Taylor is stepping
down as secretary after 9 years. Colin Marshall has a hard
act to follow. Thanks to Ian for all his hard work. The
other key appointment was Liz Moore as Vice President with
Elizabeth McDiarmid stepping up to become the President.
The Contacts page has been
updated to reflect the new make up of the committee |
 |
Our
(new) illustrious President continued where she left off
when she was Vice President, by again winning the Vice
President's challenge. This time she won 6-3 versus the
new VP, Liz Moore. |

Just
a quick update to cover the games in the first couple of weeks
in February.
 |
Congratulations
to Team Blackford on winning the Braid League on
Valentine's Day. Results went the right way for Tony,
which means he now has an unassailable lead. Well done to
Tony, Liz Moore, Gillian Donald, Ian Taylor, Crichton
Mouat and Derek MacGillivray. |
 |
Thanks
to Scott Millar, club members can benefit from a 5%
discount from Pam at CurlingShoes.com.
Pam is based in Barnton, Edinburgh so there is the added
benefit of being able to collect your purchases and save
on P&P. If you do make a purchase please mention

A
lot has happened since the web site was last updated. We've had
the Points, Pairs Final, Knockout semi-finals, West Linton
challenge match as well as a very interesting league position as
we approach the last few games of the season.
 |
Congratulations
to Alan and Sandy Scott (no relation) on winning the Pairs. |
 |
Congratulations
also go to Carolyn for winning the Points competition on
our first outing of the year. |
 |
Results
and the League and Braid
tables are up to date as at the end of January |
 |
Congratulations
(?) to the Royal Bank team for picking up their 1st point
of the season in the Province
League 2. We also had a better year than last year in
the Province Bonspiel in winning 1 game. Congratulations
to Alan Scott, Scott Millar, David Linton and Sandy Scott
on a fine win over Musketeers (who happen to be top of
Province League 1). |
 |
The
Knockout Final will be contested between Aberlour (Arnie
Yule) and Fettercairn (Ian Hastie). Both semi-finals were
excellent games with the outcome of both not decided until the
last stone of the last end. |
 |
If you haven't already done so can you let Ian Taylor know if
you are attending the AGM. He has sent out the invites and it
would be good to get an idea of how many we can expect to turn
up on the 20th Feb at Gogarburn House. |
Finally,
I now have photographs from the Opening Bonspiel (including
Margery's graceful fall) which I will post on to the site once I
have selected the best and reduced them to a size suitable for
viewing online. |

 |
There
have only been a few games since the last update. Of those
that have been played, the line up for the Knockout
semi-finals is now known. |
 |
Thanks
to 'Eagle Eye' Tony, a couple of errors in the online
fixture list have been corrected. |
 |
Rather than all the communication for the club being one-way,
I've set up a Yahoo Forum which allows us to post messages, send
eMails to one another etc. You can access this forum by going to
Yahoo.
You will have to sign up to Yahoo to participate in the forum
(unless you already have a Yahoo eMail account). |
Finally,
I'll shortly send out an eMail looking for names to play in the
Points competition on Saturday 5th Jan at 3pm. For those that
have not played before it's a hugely enjoyable format where you
try your hand at a wide variety of shots. |

Everything
on the site has now been updated. The Fixtures
& Results page has been updated as has the Contacts
page with the latest members information. The archive pages for 2006-2007
season provides lots of information on last season. In addition
the Braid league table and the Knockout
Draw have been updated following games played last week. I've added
some new links to other useful websites |
 |
On
the subject, of the Knockout Draw, I have to mention the 'Mr &
Mrs' game played between Dalwhinnie & Glenfiddich on Wednesday,
with Jennifer skipping one team and Roddy the other. Roddy showed no
mercy in pursuit of a 15-3 drubbing of his wife. I think I know who
was sleeping on the sofa that night ! |
 |
Finally,
did you know we have a star player in our club. A belated congratulations to
Scott Millar. Go to this RCCC
News page to see why. |

 |
Sorry about the
delay in getting the website up and running for this season. The league tables
have now been updated to show positions as at 16th November. |
 |
I've also
updated the list of reserves as I know many
teams are struggling to put out the full compliment of players. The Teams,
Knockout and Pairs
pages have also been updated with this season's information |
 |
The fixtures and
results and members details have still to be updated, but I should get that completed this
weekend. |

on the left of each page to navigate around the site
