The object of Rotary membership is to gather together people of different vocations and interests
and give them a common sense of purpose. This is acheived by showing them how to carry out
some form of service; this may be in the field of their own business or profession; service to the
community in which they live; or service through the international contacts which the Rotary
movement provides. The scope and variety of this objective in unlimited, and each club is free to
carry out a programme of service its own way.
Rotary members are united wordwide in the ideal of service.
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY IS;
To encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to
encurage and foster;
1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.
2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all
useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to
serve society.
3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business and community life.
4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through world fellowship
of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Whilst this seems a very heady thing, in its simplest form it means being a good person and helping others, whilst still having fun and friendship.
Many of our members are Rotarians of 28 years standing and would thoroughly recommend membership to anyone
who likes people and feels that they would like to help other people and create some happiness in any small way.
