The Case for BeliEf

“If I am asked the purely intellectual question, why I believe in Christianity, I can only answer…’I believe it quite rationally upon the evidence. But the evidence in my case…is an enormous accumulation of small but unanimous facts.”

GK Chesterton, Orthodoxy

There is something inside us that wants to know what is true and live according to it. Not that we do it all the time - certainly we don’t – but if we can, when we can, we would much rather live with true beliefs than false ones. It’s the way we are wired! Truth is the most important fact about any belief and that is why one of life’s fundamental questions is: can we know the truth?

The good news is we can know the truth because we have an in-built mechanism for discovering it and defending it - we use it all the time. Our ability to reason can help us uncover truth about the world but we need to sharpen our skills using it and understand the principles behind it. When you improve your ability to reason you will be better prepared to defend your own beliefs and interact with others.

The Case for Belief is an introduction to critical thinking that underpins the entire case for knowing and defending the truth of the Christian worldview.

Mark 9:23-24 [Jesus said] “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"
