Motivation

The king who celebrated his new clothes had faith they were the finest ever seen, but the trouble was they were unseen – the tailor had tricked him - and when the king could see the truth he could see he was not wearing anything. Everyone has some kind of faith, even those who only have faith that-they-have-no-faith, and in each case faith entails trusting in something unknown. However, faith without any understanding – the kind that leaves us intellectually naked – is neither wise nor biblical.

Faith is important in the context of belief but understanding is the key to knowing the truth and developing unshakeable faith. The most important element of Christianity is the fact that it is true and that is why Christians must be equipped to defend the truth claims of the Christian faith and be ready to engage non-Christians, offering a reasonable explanation for the truth of Christianity.

Paul engaged the Athenians (Acts 17), ready to reason why their approach to faith without understanding ended up more superstition than religion. Peter told Christians (1 Peter 3) to be prepared to answer those who asked for the reason why they could live with hope in a world without it. The Bible is clear Christians have a responsibility to share the reason why they believe and help others come to a greater understanding of the truth. Reason Why: Faith Seeking Understanding will connect with people and communicate the truth of Christianity, encouraging and equipping Christians to share reasons why their belief is true and engaging non-Christians who ask for reasons why they should believe it.

The reason the Christian worldview fits and answers life’s biggest questions is because it corresponds to the truth about reality. In the story about the king and his new clothes, a simple truth from a small boy had a powerful effect. The fact is we can all share something significant with the people God brings into our lives, so take your responsibility seriously and when you encounter someone who has faith seeking understanding be prepared to share the reason why you believe.

Reason Why is a Scottish apologetics ministry dedicated to strengthening the belief of Christians and interacting with non-Christians who are interested in matters of faith and understanding.
