Researching and celebrating the history of Redgrave by :

  • Fieldwalking
    Ongoing work, published in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute for Archaeology and History

  • Studying the 15th century history of Redgrave
    Plotting the occupants and locations of messuages in 1433.
  • Studying the 15th century history of Botesdale market place
    Plotting the occupants and locations of properties in the Market Place, 1433.
  • Cataloguing Redgrave Estate papers 1780 -1870
    A large collection of estate papers from Redgrave Hall, belonging to Peter Holt-Wilson; some 10,000 documents have been catalogued over six years, involving over 1,400 man hours.
  • Publishing local history booklets
  • Collecting research papers relating to the history of the parish.
  • Having social events, slide presentations and country walks.
  • Putting on small exhibitions

  • 'Redgrave Reflections', Sheehan, Jean (Redgrave History Group, 1993; 15pp)
    A well-researched, attractively illustrated booklet summarising the history of Redgrave, written to commemorate the visit by HRH The Prince of Wales to the church.
  • 'The Redgrave Village Sign', Sheehan, Jean (12pp)
    Village signs are one of East Anglia's distinctive features. The sign on The Knoll in Redgrave illustrates many facets of the village's history, which are neatly related in this booklet.
