WILSON FAMILY HISTORY ~ |

| The Wilsons were an old family from the County of Westmoreland, in what is now Cumbria, in the hilly north-west of England. Their heraldic crest of a moon holding flames has ancient mystical connotations, symbolising the pagan cauldron of rebirth, and also the Virgin Mary, sometimes depicted as resting on a crescent moon radiating light, which symbolises the womb. The Latin motto of the family is, appropriately, Resurgam, "I Shall Rise Again". | |
| The recorded history of the Wilson family begins in the mid 16th century.... | |||
