My work My area of expertise is in one-to-one or small group interactions. I have provided communication consultancy for Hewlett Packard and the NHS and have worked on communication research projects for the Universities of York, Bradford and Newcastle. I am an experienced Conversation Analyst interested in the sequential nature of human interaction. Conversation Analysis (CA) is concerned with how individuals demonstrate their understanding of others’ actions in contexts which are being constantly altered by the participants. For a summary of CA methods click on the link to the right. I am also familiar with a wide range of other methods for understanding communication, including interaction analysis and questionnaires. My work has involved analysing talk and non-verbal aspects of interactions in a range of settings, most recently focused on health-service consultations for people with dementia and people with diabetes.
