2011 RESULTS Saturday 27th August Manager:
Mick
A field of five this year, including novice (to
Association Croquet) Christine Mounfield.
The result was close, Ray and Richard each winning 3 out of their 4
games. Ray was the overall winner, having defeated Richard, and therefore
claims the trophy for the first time. Mick was the only player to complete
all his games within the time limit.

2010 RESULTS Saturday 28th August
Four players again this year – a similar
format to last year, but a slightly different line-up. The quality of play was generally high,
with all players putting together some good breaks which resulted in some
close games. Mick and Ray qualified
for the best-of-three final, the first of these games counting from the group
stage which Mick had won 11-8. Mick also won the second game, but only just,
with a score of 10-9, which was enough to secure the trophy. As a result of today's games, Mick's
handicap reduces to 8, and Derek's rises to 11.

2009 RESULTS Saturday 5th September
|

|
The 2009
Farrant Salver was contested by Tim, Arthur, Derek & Ray.
The
competition was run in two phases: an all-play-all block phase, followed by
a best-of-three final, with the first of the three games being carried over
from the block stage. There were several close games in the block phase.
Arthur and Tim contested a very close game in the first round, with Arthur
making a third-turn break to peg, but breaking down at hoop 4 with his
second ball. Tim then went round and pegged out Arthur's first ball, going
on to win the 3-ball ending by a single point after a long hit-in when
Arthur's ball was near the peg.
The games
were played without time limits and most games finished in a reasonable
time.

Tim and Arthur
then went on to play a best-of-three final, with Tim's win from the block
stage counting as the first game. The second game was characterised by errors
from both players, ending with another close finish, this time +4 to Arthur. The
deciding game was quicker and cleaner, with just a single mistake by Tim
allowing Arthur to win in two turns (+14).
Winner: Arthur Rowe
Runner-up: Tim King

2008
RESULTS
|
Played
on Saturday 6th September in persistent rain for much of the day (and for
most of the previous 24 hours) but the lawns played well. Arthur and Tim successfully negotiated
the group stages to set up a repeat of their 2006 semi-final, Arthur
winning more comfortably this time.
Meanwhile, Jeremy and Derek fought out a tight tactical battle in
the other semi, Jeremy emerging as the 6-3 winner. The final between Jeremy and Arthur was
also a tense match attracting much interest from the crowd (of three
players – the other three having long since departed – plus one
spectator, Judith). However, it was
a fault by Jeremy which resulted in the balls being replaced on the west
boundary, that sadly cost him the game, and Arthur took full advantage with
an impressive turn leading to a 14-10 victory. Well done Arthur – yet another
trophy for the Rowe mantelpiece.

2007 RESULTS
Played on Sunday 23rd September. A field of seven contested this
year’s Farrant Salver, including a guest appearance by Nottingham’s rising star William Gee. We ran the competition as a single block of
seven, each player getting either three or four games, and the two best
players (decided by percentage of games won) going through to a play-off
final. Arthur won all three of his
block games, progressing to the final against Jeremy who had beaten Rachel
and also had a superior hoop difference.
Jeremy won a low-scoring final by 9 points to 2, adding the Farrant
Salver to the Shakespeare Trophy he won earlier in the season.

2005 RESULTS
The 2005 competition took place on Saturday June 25th, with a slightly lower
turnout than usual - five people taking part, played as an all-play-all
tournament.
It was a very close contest, with Geoff, Mick and Marilyn all finishing on
3 wins out of 4, each of them losing their other match to one of the other
joint-leaders, so "who beat whom" failed to determine the winner,
meaning we had to resort to overall hoop difference. In fact, at one stage it
looked as if even the hoop difference would not separate the top two, before
Derek grabbed three late consolation points in his game with Marilyn. But in
the end it was Mick who emerged as the overall winner by the narrowest of
margins, winning the Farrant Salver for the second time in three years.
