         Ridgewell Airfield - Technical Site
 
The photograph above shows the Technical site around 1944 looking in a northerly direction. To the left of the frame is the service road originating from the hospital site while the perimeter track is seen top left. The rather grainy photograph (right) was taken in 1994 and shows both the southern hangar and site 2 hardstandings intact. The hangar hardstanding was broken up in 1996 and has returned to farm land, while the HQ site was given over to housing development. A detailed layout of the technical site is shown below.

From the late summer of 2007 the Hangar site has been built up with earth deposited from local building works (the hangar hardstanding was broken up in the mid-1990's). It is planned to convert this mound of earth into a nature reserve with a tree planting scheme. Details of the planning application can be found here.
