Welcome
To South Gosforth Residents' Association (SGRA) |
before
the roundabouts
The
aim of South Gosforth Residents' Association is to promote
the benefit of the public of South Gosforth by the enhancement
of the local environment therein, in particular but not
exclusively by the provision, maintenance and improvement
of an area of open space for informal recreation, play and
other leisure time pursuits with the object of improving
their conditions of life.
The SGRA is a Registered Charity No. 1097323

What
the SGRA has achived in the area this year:
- Persimmon
Homes Development (Nomad Housing)
We have vigorously campaigned against the proposed traffic plan
for Ridgewood Gardens and William Street, advised Newcastle City
Council that the mine shafts in the area needed to be addressed
before a traffic management plan could be implemented.
- The planters
outside William Street flats were falling apart; these have now
been replaced with four new ones. Thanks to Your Homes Newcastle.
The Association was approached by a resident at Mill-rise to ask
for help with an objection to a proposed Telecommunications mast
opposite Jewsons, the council turned this application down, the
company has appealed against this.
- The steps
[Corperation Road to the Green] have also had new plants put in
at the base and the bricks were concreted as well.
And
previously;
-
Race
course fencing around the Green and proper pathways and lighting
installed across it. Subsequent repairs to fencing after a joy-rider
drove across the Green
-
Bench and Litter Bin installed (thanks to a private donation)
-
Lobbied
the Council on a number of issues on Residents’ behalf
—including the proposals for converting the former Nomad
Housing building into flats, the St. Nicholas Scout Hut into
a housing development, the proposal for a bus lane from Benton
Park Road to South Gosforth roundabout, proposals to close off
Hollywood Avenue to through traffic and many other traffic related
issues.
-
We’ve
also asked the Council to repair broken street lights in the
area, clear rubbish from the Green, tidy up and improve the
steps from the Green onto Commercial Street, remove graffiti
in the area, lop overhanging tree branches, responded to a request
from resident in the flats with an electrical problem……
and so on.
