Royal Navy destroyer HMS Kelly.

A J.K.N class destroyer handed over to the Royal Navy by Hawthorn Leslie 23rd August 1939 under the command of Lord Louis Mountbatten. The ship was built as flotilla leader of the 5th Destroyer Flotilla. Served with the Home Fleet in the North Sea and Norwegian campaign. Severely damaged by German E-boat in 9th May 1940 with loss of 27 crew. Transferred to the Mediterranean theatre April 1941. Sunk by German Ju87 dive bombers off Crete on 23rd May 1941 with the loss of 130 crew.

The model is from a Deans Marine kit. Construction uses a glass fibre hull and sheet styrene for deck and deck houses etc. Motive power and radio control comprises two Deans Marine Condor motors, two Electronize 43X electronic speed controllers, Futaba 4 channel radio receiver and servo; Two 7.2 volt 2Ah NiCad batteries for motors; 4.8 volt ni-cad receiver battery pack. Dimensions are length 1130mm x 114mm beam. Total build time: 466 hours. Model is finished in Mediterranean Grey as sunk.
