The type 1936 A (mob) destroyer commonly referred to as (Narvik type by the allies) was designed to be superior to any allied destroyer in an attempt to overcome the vast numerical superiority of the allied navies. Z38 was commissioned in March 1943. The ship served in the Baltic and then in Norway. It formed part of the escort of Scharnhorst on its last voyage in December 1943. Subsequently acted as defence ship to Tirpitz until it was destroyed. Transferred to the Baltic end of 1944. En-route engaged by cruisers HMS Diadem and HMS Mauritius but escaped. Spent the rest of the war in supporting the German army in its withdrawal West and in evacuating civilian refugees and army units escaping Soviet forces. After the war the ship was allocated to Britain and became a Royal Navy unit renamed HMS Nonsuch. Used for underwater trials. Scrapped in 1950.German Kriegsmarine Narvik type destroyer Z38.

The model is based on a Deans Marine kit. The model is much enhanced by scratch built items. Construction uses a glass fibre hull and sheet styrene for deck and deck houses etc. Motive power and radio control comprises two Deans Marine Condor motors, two Action electronic speed controllers, Futaba 2.4Mhz radio receiver and servo; Two 8.4 volt 3.3Ah NiMH batteries for motors; 4.8 volt ni-cad receiver battery pack. Dimensions are length 1330mm x 125mm beam. Total build time: 700 hours. Model is finished in light grey with silver funnel tops.
