2-STEP SPARRING (Ibo Matsogi)


N.B. Attacker starts by pulling the right leg back into a right L-Stance and forming a forearm guarding block.

Attack 1
(i) Step forward into a right walking stance forming a right-handed obverse punch to the mid section.
(ii) Step forward and front kick with the left leg to the low section.

Defence 1
(i) Step back with the right leg, forming a left walking stance and block the mid section punch with a left-handed middle inner forearm block.
(ii) Step back forming a right walking stance and block the low section front kick with an X-Fist pressing block. React with a left handed reverse punch to the mid section.

Attack 2
(i) Step forward with a right-handed side punch to the mid section forming a left L-stance.
(ii) Step forward with a mid section turning kick with the left leg.

Defence 2
(i) Step back forming a right L-stance whilst block the side punch with the left palm.
(ii) Step back forming a right walking stance and block the mid section turning kick with a right middle inner forearm block. React by striking the temple of the opponent on their right side with a right back fist forming a sitting stance.

Attack 3
(i) Step forward with a right side kick to the mid section.
(ii) Step forward with a left side kick to the mid section.

Defence 3
(i) Step back forming a left L-stance whilst blocking the side kick with a right handed middle forearm guarding block.
(ii) Step to the side with the left leg and side kick the opponent with a right side kick to the mid section. (The right side kick should be done of the front leg!)

Attack 4
(i) Step forward and execute a right side kick to the mid section.
(ii) Step out with the right foot again and form a sitting stance whilst executing a right middle side strike with the right knifehand.

Defence 4
(iii) Step back forming a left L-stance whilst blocking the side kick with a right handed middle forearm guarding block.
(iv) Step back forming a left L-stance whilst blocking the knifehand side strike with a right handed middle knifehand guarding block.

Attack 5
(i) Step forward with a right front kick to the low section.
(ii) Step forward with a left turning kick to the mid section.

Defence 5
(i) Step back with the right leg forming a right L-stance and block the front kick with a low section outer forearm block.
(ii) Step back with the left leg forming a right walking stance blocking the turning kick with a right middle inner forearm block. React with a right side elbow thrust to the opponents mid section forming a right L-stance.

Notes:

1.Ensure blocking and attacking tools are focused accurately on the appropriate targets.
2. Ensure reaction force is used at all times – no one handed techniques.
3. Correct stances are only required at the point of contact with the opponent. Additional body shifting may be required if there are different opponent heights exercising.
4. Ensure sparring exercise is carried out using dynamic techniques.

It must be note that different stances and body shifting may be necessary if partners are of different heights. In some cases the focus point of the counter will have to be redirected to another target or in some cases change routine.
